#TheMandalorianSpoilers when Mando talks about not being able to take off the helmet he’s talking about Robert Bly’s Bag full of shadowy unconscious wounds that boys and men must drag behind them in their lives, things they need to work through to be healthy

#themandalorian He “put it on” when he was just a boy, which is just around the time when boys start to put things in the Bag—wounds they don’t let themselves examine and so shove down and don’t look at. They believe they do not deserve certain soft things, like feelings.

#themandalorian me thinking about the men in this series who put on helmets as boys because they were wounded and then they never took them off again and don’t feel like they can be loved or belong in the village

#TheMandalorian love this show, love this thematic deep dive into the wounded masculine, love baby Yoda’s independence, love Cara Dune, love romance with knights in shining armor, love the struggles of parenting and feeling unworthy of soft things, love everything

#TheMandalorian I love how they really explicitly went into how Mando saving the Child = him saving himself as a child, or his own inner child. This show has so much of that psychological stuff I love

#TheMandalorian I keep going back to that part where Cara Dune is talking about how obviously nice it would be to stay with Omera and Mando is actually visibly *writhing* with feelings and discomfort in the shot bc of course he’s thought about it, so so so much

#TheMandalorian Where Mando is going now is the Actual Descent Into the Underworld from the green growing world, so it will be even more dangerous than the previous descents. And he will return to the green world again at the end (imo)

#themandalorian I went back through listening to the Omera love theme and the development is so subtle and sweet—it starts with the most gentle undercurrent when she first asks about him abt showing himself and by the end it has these sweeping emotional added strings

#TheMandolorian Actually it works as a little family theme as well, I think the song is also applied to the feeling of the four of them being together? Omg.... my heart

#TheMandolorian I laughed when at the farewell between Cara and Mando, the tender music instantly switches off. And then turns back on afterward. They are like *slaps each other on the shoulder* — Cara is extremely unsentimental and i love how seriously the music treats her

#TheMandalorian last thing: that he says he removed it “yesterday” means he does sleep in it.

#TheMandalorian that this little 4-person family has such a moving emotional leitmotif, and that they specifically showed the siblings interacting, makes me hope and expect that them reuniting will be the triumphant ending of the story

#TheMandalorian when he first sees her, the love music plays clearly and purely for a few full-string bars while she opens the window and lets light inside and cascade over her, and then it quiets like he’s reminding himself it won’t work, I’m so emo lol

The story told by the music is so master class detailed and thoughtfully done, holy crap
