So many basics Arsenal players lack. Vision: no one ever checks their shoulders; it’s astonishing. Touch: the number of players the ball bounces off is breathtaking. Strength: our youngsters are bounced off the ball. Desire: no one closes quickly enough - see their second goal.
For the first goal the ball is played across Guendouzi, half a yard from him. Typically for a midfielder who makes only one interception a game, he lets it run, it reaches Kamada and he scores.
For the second, compare the closing to City’s (or Newcastle’s/Burnley’s etc) when the ball’s on the edge or the box. The right thing to do is to sprint at the ball carrier and fling yourself headlong into a block. Five Arsenal players amble
These are basics. Now I might be wrong and I hope I am but I do not see any manager coaching grown men to look when they don’t do it instinctively. To power up weak-limbed kids overnight, to instil courage and desire in players. To magic Auba a touch in tight spaces.
To make it so that bringing Ozil on isn’t like having a man sent off. These players are, broadly, bad. I’d love to see that it isn’t a permanent condition but I fear it is. #arsenal #AFC
(Thank God for Martinelli, mind, for whom none of the above assessments apply.)
He’s a very good coach. It seems obvious his bewildering lack of English is an impediment to communicating his ideas.
