The clip was a fiction, but it created a narrative, and the sense among Tory voters that that narrative is true is based on decades of (mostly invented) r-wing press attacks on public service bcasters as being 'left wing'

Today you will see Gove's fiction combined in many or all of Telegraph, Mail, Express & Sun. The backing of the press is the cement that holds the framework together. It allows r-wing voters to assert the bona fide 'truth' of the confected Tory outrage

Sometimes they're caught, mostly they're not. When they're caught there is usually frenetic activity on social media for a day or two & maybe an item on a specialist politics show & a piece in the Indy or Guardian...

People claim there is a liberal version of this ideological falsehood amplification model, but believing that requires an acceptance that @bbcnews is a left wing version of @foxnews or that @Guardian casually publishes lies a la Telegraph & Express

Those assertions are palpably & provably untrue, but they exist & they need to exist, like Emmanuel Goldstein needed to exist, as part of the r-wing framework because it creates a distraction from their own complex tissue of lies.
