I have to confess that I do have what I guess some would call "purity tests," though I prefer to think of them as perfectly reasonable requests. Morals are supposed to make things complicated.

Here are my standards:

1 of 11
1) Being human is all that matters. Equality rots away through the arbitrary creation of identity factors, the stratification of humankind is dehumanizing.

Equality in: opportunity, pay, access, human rights.

2 of 11
2) Poverty is a disease that must be eradicated in its entirety, where ever in the world it exists. Like any other epidemic, the consequences are far too high and impact the whole of humanity.

3 of 11
3) Health care must be declared a human right, followed by the implementation of a single-payer health care system that grants all people universal access to comprehensive medical services.

4 of 11
4) Liberate medical science from the for-profit and religious constraints by passing legislation prohibiting the private ownership of hospitals and other medical care facilities. Religious control of such facilities must also be prohibited.

5 of 11
5) Substantial investments in both scientific research and our education system are urgent priorities. Making both the envy of the world is what will make us that beacon on the hill, and ensure a thriving economy for all.

6 of 11
6) Climate Change must be declared a global threat and followed through with aggressive action, directed by scientists and experts, with few exceptions. We must do everything required of us to overcome this existential threat.

7 of 11
7) We need to finish what was left undone after the Civil War and free POC from the remaining tentacles of slavery. Major investments in intentionally impoverished communities and reparations will be the first step.

8 of 11
8) We need to restructure our criminal justice system, applying the social sciences to construct an evidence-based approach that has proven highly effective. We must make amends for the cruelty of the dehumanization caused by our justice system.

9 of 11
9) Never fucking again should there be a slaughter of children at their schools. The right for citizens NOT to be shot must be placed high above the rights of the next potential domestic terrorist. Do whatever it takes to stop this travesty.

10 of 11
10) End the damn influence of religion and corporations in every way. Revoke the elevation of rights given to religious people that are merely used to persecute and marginalize others. Equal rights, no less and no more.
