I had been feel great all day. No fever, so sickness, no exhaustion at all. My wife and I got over to my parents for thanksgiving dinner. We get there about two hours before the food is ready.
One all the food is prepared, we all make our plates and sit at the table. I take one or two bites, maybe three and I start to feel that my acid reflux is kicking in and my food is not going down my esophagus. I can still breath, so I’m not choking.
But the burning of the indigestion is not helping at all.
Just a heads up - it get gross right here.
So I stand up and then I realize my food is coming back up. I pretty much just throw up the two bites of food I just ate. I hadn’t eaten all day, so not much was in there.

So I stand up and then I realize my food is coming back up. I pretty much just throw up the two bites of food I just ate. I hadn’t eaten all day, so not much was in there.
Also, I should note, I haven’t thrown up since my senior year in high school. So that streak is over.
I think it’s all done. So I start to turn around to leave the restroom. Nope. Here comes round two. But I realize not of it is coming from my stomach. Just my esophagus. After round two, I try to drink water. Nope. Here comes round three...
I realize that after round three, it comes back up after I feel the indigestion burning in my esophagus. I try to take nausea medicine. Nope, right back up. Also, no food, just stomach fluid. After rounds 4 and 5, it’s time to go to the ER.
Chelsea drives me to the ER where I manage to not barf on the way there. Surprisingly I sign in and they get me to a room immediately. Once I’m hooked up to the EKG machine, the Dr. comes in. As I’m speaking to him, I swear I’m about to go for round 6. BUT!
As I think I’m about to throw up again, I feel *something* in my esophagus drop. Once I feel that, it’s like a light switch and it’s instant relief. My sweats break. I feel like I can talk without getting nauseous. And I feel like I could swallow w/o aggravating my indigestion.
Turns out......
I apparently had something blocking my esophagus which was causing my food to come back up. The acid reflux was apparently a defense mechanism of my body trying to clear the pathway. Once that obstruction dropped, I felt much better.

I was discharged with a nausea and reflux prescription. I’m home now.
Moral of the story is apparently don’t be a man child and scarf your food down. Chew your food. I mean, I’ve been eating for 36 years and this is the first time it’s happened. So, be careful because apparently I could happen to anyone and is common.
Thank you to all who sent a tweet with your concern. It’s much appreciated more than you know!
Thank you and I hope you all had a very happy Thanksgiving!
FĂn.
Post script - you bet your sweet apple pie I’m going back to my parents tomorrow for those leftovers.
