To be fair, this person has her chronology all messed up, but she's discussing a very specific infrastructural trauma that happened around ~2014, and I haven't seen anyone talk about this with recognition of that.

Before that point, tags were exact strings. If you posted art and tagged it "dirk strider nsfw" it would NOT show up in the "dirk strider" tag.

Similarly if a character's name appeared in a post but not in tags, it wouldn't be searchable.

Then the code intern nation attacked
Being a young teen/preteen on that site at that time must have been AWFUL, honestly.

I witnessed it, watched Tumblr break down boundaries between people's spaces. Talked about it at the time. But there wasn't anything we could DO about it.
Corporations do harm and then get us to fight each other about it.

That's how capitalism stays in power.

Believe people who say they were harmed

But always ask how it happened, and find out who benefited from it.
