As a surgeon and a so-called “expert” with multiple degrees, I never wield that power to supersede the expertise of my patients about their own health and bodies. It’s exploitative and sickening. https://twitter.com/arrianna_planey/status/1199698634054520832
Honestly, collective and community knowledge is often way ahead the curve when it comes to the health and wellness of people, especially women.
This is not to say that my allopathic/academic expertise is useless or not better informed than many that co-opt and misconstrue generational health wisdom. It’s it is just part of the whole. I can both be the expert and the student. In fact, it is incumbent upon me to be both.
I guess this is all just to say, doctors can be equally disingenuous and self-indulgent. I don’t post my credentials bc they are not automatically validating. Trust people who do the work regardless of their degrees.
Lastly, people can be correct on one one issue and wildly off the mark on others. Not everyone deserves a platform or understands how best to use it.
