“Can you believe it?! My son is going to be just like you!”

(Thread) /1
We chatted for a minute about her son and how excited she was for him and she was very clearly proud

Naturally I wished her son well and told her he would love it. /2
It was one of those moments where I felt especially proud to do what I do. And I genuinely hope that those coming into the career are not bogged down by the negatives that surround our line of work. /3
It’s truly a phenomenal profession to be involved in, and to see someone so proud to tell me about someone I’ve never met/probably will never meet made me feel that much more invigorated to do my job well. /4

It doesn’t always have to be intubations, cardioversions, and extrications. Sometimes a smile and a positive energy is enough to impress upon the people around you. /6
I genuinely hope I did that for this lady, and I hope that her son and all his future colleagues embrace the opportunity to do the same.
