I& #39;m on a bus right now, and I& #39;m pretty bored.

So here& #39;s a thread on why I think the Mach 6 from Next Generation (not the movie) is really, really lame.
This arguably the most important info dump in the entire original series. Thanks to it, we as an audience know what the Mach 5 is capable of, as well as be able to surmise it& #39;s limitations.

This same sequence is also the main focal point on why the NG Mach 6 is so boring.
The NG Mach 6 never got this kind of attention. It& #39;s main gimmick is that it had the *potential* to run on something besides Gasoline, but it was never completed before Speed Sr was forced into hiding.
We eventually learn the Mach 6& #39;s alt fuel source is Cold Fusion through a part that was missing in the engine.

That& #39;s neat and all, but we were never told what the car was capable of in terms of its gadgets.
Connor doesn& #39;t even give Speed Jr a run down on what button does what. There& #39;s no "Here Speed, this button is the auto jacks, this button is the buzz saws, this button is..."

Instead, the Mach 6 was introduced like this.
Why is this such a problem, you may ask? Because that meant pretty much every gadget except the Auto Jacks and laser saws were a complete Ass Pull, even by this series standards.
Does the Mach 6 need to be invisible in this situation? Here, now it can turn invisible.

Does the Mach 6 need missles? Now it can shoot missiles.

Does the Mach 6 need to shoot laser beams? Here, now it can shoot laser beams.
This might have been fine if they just kept going with the gasless tech theme, but it was resolved and closed by the end of season 1 when Sparky came along and helped Speed Jr and Co. finish the engine.

Yes. One Season and the Mach 6& #39;s greatest mystery is solved.
"So we just squandered the only remotely interesting thing about the Mach 6. What do we do with it now?"

"....Time Travel."
No. I& #39;m not kidding. In order to keep focus on the Mach 6, it was turned into a knock off Back to The Future Delorean.

And in true Next Gen fashion, it was pulled pretty much from thin air.
Another minor point that coincides with Next Gen& #39;s chronic condition of just pulling things from thin air.

Look at the Mach 5& #39;s wheel. It& #39;s simple, practical, and you can easily memorize what everything is.

One look at this picture, and you immediately know its the Mach 5.
Whenever Speed Sr pushed a button, I go in my head "cool, he& #39;s using [Insert Gadget Here]."

I don& #39;t get in Next Gen because it seems whenever Speed Jr needs to use a gadget, he just pushes whatever, be it on the wheel or not, and the Mach 6 does the thing he needs.
The Mach 5 also had more unorthodox gadgets than the Mach 6. There& #39;s a reason why the Saw Blades and the Auto Jacks are the most recognizable features.

Because you didn& #39;t even see those kind of things on James Bond cars, let alone an *open cockpit endurance racing car*.
The Mach 6?

It shoots lasers....and borrows from a much better grey sci-fi car.
The point being, the Mach 5 had clear set rules from the get go and it& #39;s tools were creative.

The Next Gen Mach 6 just made shit up as it went, and almost all the stuff it borrowed from the Mach 5 were bland and boring.
Even the Mach 5 in New Adventures did a better job at establishing itself.
That, and the Mach 6 looks like mangled ass.
