Let’s look at some of those a bit more closely. Jonathan Wood - hedge fund manager - gives £250k to the Tories. Wood has hated the Labour Party at least since his (Monaco-based) fund was prevented from cashing in on the collapse of Northern Rock.
Yan Huo, another hedge fund manager, personal worth £470m, gives £200k. Rosemary Said, wife of arms dealer Wafic Said, also gives £200k; he brokered massive arms deals with Saudi Arabia, used to ongoing and bloody effect in Yemen.
(Labour’s manifesto promises to immediately suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia. FWIW Wafic Said himself used to be a donor to the Tories until rules on foreign donations were reformed.)
Venture capitalist Adrian Beecroft donates £100k to the Tories. Beecroft authored a report for the Tory-Lib Dem coalition in 2012, in which he recommended making it easier to fire workers – later citing £150k payouts he had to make in unfair dismissal cases.
Lakshmi Mittal and his wife Usha donate £75,000 each to the Tories. Mittal, a billionaire, is notorious for the ‘cash for influence’ scandal (and that hideous East London monument erected for the Olympics.)
There's lots more in there. But in short: billionaires and multi-millionaires know who’s on their side. Do you?
