General public opinion gleaned from my 20 days in Srinagar:

1) After a month of angst, reconciled to the new normal of Kashmir without Article 370. Now hope for genuine development and sincerity.
2) No violence after August 5 means the ones arrested were primarily responsible for violence all these years. Lock them up and throw away the keys, nobody cares.
3) No violence after August 5 means government can maintain law and order, if it really has the will. This is an indictment of past governments who benefited from the conflict.
4) 'Mainstream' politicians like the Abdullahs and Muftis, and separatist leaders like Geelani, Yasin Malik, etc. are irrelevant now. Can't repose trust in those who brought us to this point.
5) Peace looking tentative due to escalation of terror attacks. Used to going about their lives against a backdrop of terror. Another round of violence expected due to checkered history, but hoped against.
6) Internet connectivity is much required by one and all, students to businesses. Won't mind if social media sites are blocked, but regular browsing allowed.
7) No idea whatsoever of Pakistan's Red Dot 🔴 or #StandWithKashmir campaigns. Find it disconnected from the ground situation.
