Happy Thanksgiving, #FPLCommunity! We’re now a third of the way into the season. On this day of family time, giving thanks, and gluttony, I think it’s appropriate to compare #FPL assets and trends to the staples of the Thanksgiving table.
You have to start with the pièce de résistance of the Thanksgiving meal: the turkey. No table is complete without the bird. These days, no FPL team is complete without Jamie Vardy. He’s scoring at will for Leicester of late & is always a strong Captain option. The Fox is flying!
Stuffing. The mother of all side dishes: bread, veggies, & herbs that’s cooked inside the turkey & served on its own in all its glory. Similarly John Lundstram started the year as a mysterious, newly promoted £4m OOP DEF but has emerged to become an FPL cult icon & team staple.
Cranberry sauce. You could go about making the canned stuff, but making it yourself is much more gratifying. Compared to Salah @ the start of the year, in Sadio Mané, you got someone with better numbers and have more cash to spend elsewhere. Both are equally sweet and satisfying.
Sweet potatoes are all about versatility. They can be a savory side dish during the main meal or a sweet filling in a pie for dessert. It seems like no matter how Pep lines up City, Kevin De Bruyne will be in the team somewhere & keep the Citizens up and running. Gingers united!
Mashed potatoes. Another crowd pleaser, they’re best made low and slow using quality ingredients and seasonings. It took Wolves a while to get going this year, but now that they’ve found their PL/Europa balance, Raúl Jiménez looks like a reliable source of goals once again.
Gravy. Almost as essential as the turkey itself, it adds flavor & moistness & locks up turkey’s status in the food hierarchy. Andrew Robertson is almost as essential as Vardy with his strong defensive abilities & assist numbers. (More on the lack of clean sheets later...)
Green bean casserole. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but everyone has their own recipe for it & thinks theirs is best. Similarly, everyone has their own thoughts on whether Callum Wilson is an FPL troll or not, but if you own him at the right time, it’s mighty tasty!
Tofurky. This new-ish vegetarian product is hyped as something meant to resemble turkey but comes nowhere close to the real thing. It’s kinda like Teemu Pukki this year. The newly promoted Finn was flying out the gates, but he looks more like this year’s Mitrovic than Agüero.
Apple pie. Just when you thought the meal was over, you have to make room for this all-American classic dessert. At Chelsea, a team chock full of young talent, Lampard has had to make room for Christian Pulisic, a young American star who’s been coming on strong the past month.
At the end of the meal, 2 people fight over the wishbone & the one with the bigger half gets to make a wish. I think most FPL managers are wishing for more clean sheets the rest of the way. They’re rare & hard to come by this year, almost as slim as your chances at the wishbone.
At my family’s meal, we go around the table & say what we’re thankful for. This year, I’m thankful for the #FPLCommunity for being a great source of #FPL advice that’s also full of class, down to earth people!

#HappyThanksgiving to you & your families! May your arrows be green!
