As I enter this Christmas season and begin singing the songs of the season, I have been curious about the songs I've been singing since I was a child.
Finding information and verifying it can prove tricky, but I thought I'd share what I've found.

Away In A Manged:
Though often
attributed to Martin Luther there is no direct evidence in any of his writings to suggest that this is true. By all accounts it was first sung in America in 1882.
Originally titled "Luther's Cradel Song. William Kirkpatrick published it in several papers under that heading.
While I wasn't able to verify that it was written and attributed to Luther in honor of his 400th birthday, it is known he converted to a Methodist after immigrating to the United States.
"Luther's Cradle Song" quickly spread in popularity and became one of the first songs many
children grew up hearing, and is still sung by kids at many Christmas programs to this day.
I think there is something special about hearing the song sung by children, perhaps it is the innocence in their voices.

Listen and tell me what you think.
