The Unions on their part have just converted effort, fatigue & human limits in to a conveniently tangible rate/hour. In my experience in fact, most workers in the industry seem to be completely okay with round the clock work as long as they're paid "as per market/union rates" 2/6
There's no realistic 3rd or 4th callsheet pay that'll help you deal with sleep deprivation, & the stresses it causes on the human system
Of course, I can't say much abt senior technicians or people in heads-of-dept positions, because they have the power to negotiate their pay 3/6

But for the lower rung of technicians involved: the easily anonymised, easily replaceable light, sound, boom, camera operators, production, catering assistants; the system ignores the well being of individuals since the union will provide replacements. How is this humane? 4/6
Regulation is hated, and understandably so. But if the industry will not put in place mandatory 10/12 hour turnaround times, sustainable scheduling, it will have to be forced on. Well rested people work better- not that workers' rights should be dependent on productivity. 5/6
If workers are anxious abt missed wages frm not working overtime thn regular wages should be raised to maintain parity. The superstars can take a pay cut. An increase of ₹1000 per head worker, does nary a dent in the prized 8 figure kittys of stars, specifically the male stars.6
