Have you ever heard of the Elephant clock ??
(A Thread)

It was invented by Al-Jazari in the 12th century.
The timing mechanism is based on a water-filled bucket hidden inside the elephant. The various elements of the clock are in the housing on top of the elephant.
This invention was designed to move and make a sound each half hour. The picture below describes in details the mechanism used.
This unique artwork is considered to reflect multiculturalism, in this case in Islam, in technology: with the water work on Greek Archimedes’ principle, the elephant to represent India, all with a Persian carpet, a Chinese dragon, a phoenix from Egypt & a human wearing a Turban.
Reproductions of the elephant clock can be seen in a shopping mall in Dubai, the Ibn Battuta Mall, and the Musee d’Horlogerie du Locle in Switzerland.
