You have to go to estate sales of very old people if you want to find the Lindy stuff. A much smaller percent of new production items are Lindy.
WWII generation middle class guys had tons of tools and other cool stuff, most of it Made in USA of real materials. You must rescue it from the dumpster or the antique mall re-seller vultures. You must storm the estate sales!
You can get an oak table or leather chairs at an estate sale for less than a pine table or plastic chairs from IKEA. You are welcome for this gnome knowledge.
Some estate-selling agents or companies are better than others. They usually have somewhat of a formula to how they price things - some try to squeeze more money out than others, some will negotiate more than others. Take your time learn the ropes.
Bulky low value stuff like bookshelves they are often happy just to make it go away and save the trip to Goodwill. Offer a dumb low amount you might be surprised.
Its a very low-tech cash and carry affair, usually just listed in the newspaper or somewhere like that - totally different than amazon or ebay. Most younger folks don't even know about these sales but people die all day every day and their stuff has to be sold.
Its also an interesting etho-cultural study because you see all the combined items that a person of a particular demographic owned, including stuff that would normally be tucked away in closets and drawers etc.
Also if you're a pine tree nerd this is very environmentally friendly - all the energy to produce the items was expended long ago. You're also not contributing to the US trade deficit.
When the Boomers really start kicking the bucket in full swing the secondary markets like this are going to be flooded with crap. You shouldn't have to buy anything new from like 2020-2040.
Basically you can live like a pirate king off of loot-hunting heavily discounted Dead Boomer excess materials, if you simply show up to the liquidation.
You should not even have to pay more than 50 cents for a cup or mug or plate for the rest of your life. You should have a hand-painted tea china set for $10. You should have a library of leather-bound books for $2 each. You should have a genuine leather briefcase for $5.
So in conclusion, you can hate the Boomers for destroying the world with materialism or not, but just make sure you show up to the loot party and never pay retail prices again to the companies whose stock they own.
Nobody else is going to buy the stuff once the Boomers start keeling over. Its going to be crazy. If you pay retail for furniture after the year 2020 it will be because your wife forced you to get a new matching set.
There will be Zoomers whose apartment or home is fully furnished for 10% of retail with nothing but Boomer Loot.
