Happy #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth. Everyday this month I am sharing a little info and this week's theme is contemporary Indigenous people. Today's lesson is about Native fashion designers.

In addition to beading this insanely gorgeous pair of boots Jamie Okuma’s work has been shown at national fashion shows and even the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Okuma is a self-taught designer who is Shoshone-Bannock and Luiseño.
. @Byellowtail is a Northern Cheyenne & Crow fashion designer. Her designs consistently support activism including #NODAPL and the Indigenous contingent at the @womensmarch. Check out the collective of fashion designers + markers she started here: https://byellowtail.com/ 
Jessica R. Metcalfe (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) launched @BeyondBuckskin in 2009. The collective now hosts the work of over 40 Indigenous artists and designers!

Eighth Generation was founded in 2008 by Louie Gong (Nooksack) and is the first Native owned company to produce wool blankets. Rather than shopping "Native-inspired" products this holiday season buy from these inspired Natives!!
