Bummed that folks pivoted so quickly from, "Let's look at Disney's monopolistic business practices, which are destroying independent theaters and decimating the rest" to "Just ordered Disney+, OMG Baby Yoda," but what can you do.
And in the meantime, every director not currently employed by Disney will tell you that things are very, very bad right now for any filmmaker trying to tell non-corporate IP stories. Yes, worse than ever. Demonstrably so. But people still push back: "Oh, it can't be that bad."
Entertainment business analysts, meanwhile, retreat into pro-corporate, "invisible hand of the market"-type bromides that discount how the theatrical experience has been consciously reshaped by corporations to favor gigantic brands. "This is what the people want," they insist.
