A few words on desk-rejected papers: lately at @PolStudies we´ve had a few disgruntled authors complain about desk rejects, claiming we failed to recognise the originality of their argument. Of course all rejections are disappointing, but .. (1/-)

most desk-rejected papers can be sent straight back out to another journal. A desk reject is not a sign of a poor paper. We reject many good papers; an original argument is necessary but insufficient to get your paper out to review. We´ll receive nearly 700 papers this year (2/-)

so have to set the bar high - it would be impossible to send all the reasonably good papers out. But we do desk reject within days, so keep sending us your best work and please don´t be discouraged by desk-rejection decisions. (3/3)
