So. I find Sady interesting in general. But this is a bad take - and it comes out of white culturalization.

Culture defines what we consider appropriate communication styles. While women -esp middle/upper class- are taught that confrontation is bad. Challenge is rude.

You’re not supposed to get in someone’s face. Most certainly no one is supposed to get in your face.
How dare someone!
But that’s a white American construct. It isn’t universal. And it is the arrogance of white privilege to assume everyone has the same communication values.
/2
Black American communication culture is different. Black women especially prize blunt, direct, challenging talk.
Harris supporters have every right to express themselves according to their cultural values.
(Sorry to sound like a professor. But I was one.)

We need to realize there are different communication values. They vary by culture (and class).
White people have to stop thinking their ways of doing things is universal. It’s not. We offend so many by our ignorance -not only of other cultures but even that we too have one!

We are on the verge of becoming a a pluralistic, multicultural country. That’s invigorating, sparking creativity and energy.
But white people? We have to give up being the arbiters of how things should be done. That’s over.
Thank God.

For too long dominant white culture said you can succeed, but only if you become like us.
(Ask any “diversity hire” what that’s like. Ask any woman who’s made in in a “man’s world”.)
And that’s the big conflict between Warren and Harris supporters.
/6
Women who support Warren are highly affliated to white culture. (Not a criticism.) it dictates how they communicate, what they value. Even that they chose Warren to support.
For the 1st time we have candidates -Harris most obviously- who aren’t conforming to that paradigm.
/7
Harris has a lot of supporters who feel like they’ve been playing by white rules in politics and where has that gotten them? Having the presidency stolen from Clinton feels like betrayal.
So no more playing by white rules.
I find that healthy and invigorating.
/8
But I’m not highly affiliated to white cultural norms (long story). I enjoy different cultural communication norms.
But for a lot of white women - oddly enough more likely among highly educated, upper middle class women - it’s new.

With all the kindness within me? Learn to deal with it. You’ll like it.

And we will become the party of diversity we have claimed to be. And maybe, just maybe, elect a Democrat as president.
