If you think of the #StudentsSolidarityMarch as just a socialist anti national campaign at the behest of some invisible international conspiracy, then also have the audacity to say that the constitution of Pakistan is also an anti national document.
The article 3 of the constitution states: The State shall ensure the elimination of all forms of exploitation and the gradual fulfilment of the fundamental principle, from each according to his ability, to each according to his work.
Article 17 of the constitution grants every citizen of Pakistan the right to association and unionise. If students are citizens above 18 who can vote for national and provincial assemblies, then they are well within their constitutional rights to demand their right to unionise.
Under the Article 25-A, it is the state’s responsibility to provide free education to everyone. This warrants the demand for free education and the establishment of new educational infrastructure in marginalised provinces and administered areas.
The Article 10(1) of Chapter 1 states: No person (students?) who is arrested shall be detained in custody without being informed, as soon as may be, of the grounds for such arrest, nor shall he be denied the right to consult and be defended by a legal practitioner of his choice.
Every institution is also bound to follow the HEC’s "Policy Guidelines against Sexual Harassment in Institutions of Higher Learning", which they haven’t ever done so, which legitimises the sexual harassment demand.
The 1993 decision of the Supreme Court after Benazir’s restoration of student unions only upheld the ban temporarily and asked the governments to reorganise unions and prepare for elections in one month.
If there remains anyone in contempt of court and the constitution, it is the government that refuses to acknowledge the law, rather than the organisers of #StudentsSolidarityMarch who are working to enforce it!
