Gentle reminder a lot of Elders love Thanksgiving and likely also church

They survived kidnapping and being sold to residential schools or abusive Christian families at the age of 5 through 16+

They don't need your hot take, they know it all better then you, let um have Turkey

You ain't gonna tell um anything they didn't live through.

You wanna talk about the worst, they lived it, they survived it, and now if they wanna sit and laugh over turkey well that's that.

I survived the priests and nuns I get to decide about my feelings on communion and the church. My cuz'n that loves the church, same earned right.

In the same vein I survived my fam I get to decide how I feel about them.

I can joke with my cuz'ns about my mother and grandmother's switch and the nuns stick and our scars we carry, but my niece telling me they went overboard ain't nothing my body don't know.

I can look at my scars and remember more pain then what you gonna tell me about to convince me I should be upset, I can guarantee your elders, same same; likely more, more.

Elders get leeway and free reign because they got us here.

Each generation has taken blows so the next generations don't have to, and slowly we survive.

Y'all doing great, we proud of ya, but we gonna enjoy what we want.

I ain't sayn don't get out there and live your change, or stop fighting. I love see'un y'all fight for what you want.

But,

We tired and we eating turkey and we want our families to laugh at our table and talk story no matter what the dinner is called, we just want to see our prides and our joys without any yelling, we've had plenty of yelling already in our lives.

I ain't sayn love Thanksgiving, but if your grandma wants to have one,
respect her not the holiday.

If she's Indigenous
and you're Indigenous
then she's earned it.

Grandma's more important than being woke.

Those that came before couldn't whip us into changing as kids, you ain't gonna yell us into changing as adults.
