A *thread* about @twitter and what I’ve learned about #CBD in the last 24 hrs. My tweet from yesterday sharing @business news on the #FDA raising concerns about potential harm from #CBD use has gotten over 1.3 million impressions (see screenshots). Did not see this coming and the retweets, comments and quotes keep rolling in. The majority of the #CBD @Twitter commentary on this tweet argues that the side effects that the #FDA has identified as potentially harmful are the same as or more mild than other FDA approved drugs.

Another comment in quote tweets that has been repeated by many of the commenters - apparently not realizing others had said the same thing - is some variation of ‘alcohol does the same things’ (see sample screenshot). #CBD

The next comment theme is expression of the belief that somehow “big #Pharma” is linked to this latest #FDA announcement (see example below). #CBD

Folks also raised the point that some of the symptoms are actually desired effects of CBD that people seek out, in some instances as a sleep aid.

So far over 19,000 people have engaged with my #CBD tweet and I’m sure there is a much larger discussion going on across the country that @FDA_Drug_Info has sparked. We knew this but just a reminder that: a lot of people care about this.
Here is @KristineOwram’s informative @business piece on the #CBD market that I was sharing the news from. She reports that “[c]onsumer CBD stocks fell on the news” of the #FDA announcement

The major expansion in the #cannabis market led me and my colleagues @BLaw to write about key cannabis legal developments to watch in 2020 including the status of interstate shipment of industrial #hemp (used to make #CBD) for our #BloomberLaw2020 series

What a wild place @twitter is! I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I love it
