English word Rice descends etymologically from Greek ὄρυζα(Óruza)- alternatively ὄρυζον(Óruzon)

Keeping these Multitude of Suggestions by Linguists aside for a Moment-a few things to note regarding Rice in Sanskrit

The Earliest Occurence of Vrīhi meaning Rice is in Atharvaveda

Whilst in Ṛgveda, we find the words Odana and Puroḷāś indicating a certain Rice Dish

Now,Rice was domesticated all through a Riverine Belt from the Ganga-Yamuna Basin stretching Southeast down to Mekong Basin- from where Austroasiatic speakers originated

Early Remains of Rice in India are to be from Koldihwa,Modern-Day UP dated to 7000-8000 years Before Present

Finally,a few thoughts of mine :

Consider Tamiḷ அரிசி(Arici meaning Rice) and Telugu అరిసె(Arise meaning a Rice Pancake)

Tamiḷ has a tendency to Palatalise the Dental Sibilant ஸ to the Palatal Stop ச- which may suggest Telugu అరిసె to be conservative than Tamiḷ அரிசி

Say Sanskrit Vrīhi-were to be loaned into Tamiḷ

Then Voiced Glottal Fricative H would have been replaced with Voiced Glottal Stop G-leading to அரிகி/வரிகி in Tamiḷ

But,given Tamiḷ has அரிசி-it suggests a Hypothetical Sanskrit *Vrīji to be the possible loan-form into Tamiḷ

Now compare this with Old Persian Vrinji/Brinji-and given a few instances of Nasal Infixation in Persian like in Xūn descending from Old Iranian Vohu Post-Metathesis

Then,all this cumulative evidence suggests a Hypothetical Proto Indo-Iranian form of *Vrījhi meaning Rice

Also consider Greek ὄρυζον(Óruzon)-where "on" is the Genitive Inflection Marker for Greek ὄρυζᾰ(Óruza)

The presence of the Voiced Sibilant Z(ζ-Zeta) in Greek ὄρυζον(Óruzon) -a loan from Old Persian points to either Jh/Z instead of H in Proto Indo-Iranian Reconstruction

We know that the Voiced Sibilant Z precedes the Voiced Glottal Fricative H in the phonological development of Indo-Aryan

Thus,a question in finality-is Sanskrit Vrīhi eventually from a Proto Indo-Iranian form *Vrījhi than a loan from other Unattested Prehistoric Languages ?
