Just devoured #FeastFast @FitzMuseum_UK So many beautiful surprising things. Here are some of my favourites. 1/ This kind-eyed 17thC Dutch waffle temptress...
2 / The incredibly painted hair on this hare... #FeastFast
Several amazing animal details in van Swanevelt's 17thC Campo Vaccino, Rome, not least this dog energetically crapping ...
More from the Campo Vaccino, this unfortunate and gigantic wild boar. Its grunts of protest don't seem to concern the semi-naked man in the foreground.
4 / This vibrant Dutch still life with fruit & macaws. Masterstroke is the foolhardy fly top centre! All @FitzMuseum_UK collection so far, BTW. #FeastFast
5 / This ice cream spaddle and sorbetier from Gunter's of Berkeley Sq (probably early 19thC). Enough said.
6 / This very trendy 1639 'Clapmash' bowl with pomegranates, grapes & foliage which could have been made in Southwark ... or maybe the Netherlands.
This #18thcentury Netherlands market stall mainly because I love chestnuts ... and the detail up close is incredible. Again, @FitzMuseum_UK collection.
8 / These sensational 16thC Venetian storage jars which make me realise I really need more fruit pickle in my life... and priceless ceramics. I'd keep mango chutney in them.
9 / van Mieris the Elder proclaiming there's no such thing as an innocently slurped oyster. @FitzMuseum_UK collection. #FeastFast
10 / Some of the most beautiful rotting fruit I've ever seen. Well done Abraham Mignon, Utrecht, c.1670. @FitzMuseum_UK collection #FeastFast
11 / And finally, this stunningly sculptural spitjack, made in England around 1770. I hope this thread gives a flavour (sorry!) of the surprising treasures in #FeastFast . I'll be going back for a second helping.
I also think #FeastFast offers one of the most original and moving exhibition films I've seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=11&v=g_BbPLtqelA&feature=emb_logo
