One day, the organisation I work for decided to hold a badminton tournament. The organisation has four & #39;houses& #39;; Black Storm, Blue Thunder, Grey Eagle, and, the house that I& #39;m in, White Tiger.
Being someone who has gotten out of shape since being married, and being someone who generally sucks at playing badminton, I didn& #39;t sign up.
Unfortunately, there were a lot more of my colleagues like me, who didn& #39;t sign up, and so, there was a shortage of players.
Unfortunately, there were a lot more of my colleagues like me, who didn& #39;t sign up, and so, there was a shortage of players.
My boss, a badminton enthusiast, somehow managed to convince me to join, just to "fill up the player quota". So I did. I was to be in his team for mixed doubles games.
The organisation ran into planning problems, and couldn& #39;t finalize the dates on which to hold the tournament. The first round was supposed to be in early November, which overlapped with my trip to Japan, and I wasn& #39;t going to miss my trip for a tournament.
No news of the confirmed dates, and I returned from my trip to Japan just in time to make it for the tournament. Wow, how the stars have aligned.
The tournament was quite a short one. It consisted of 3 stages: round robin, semi-finals, and finals. There were only 3 categories: men& #39;s doubles, women& #39;s doubles, and mixed doubles. In each category per house, has 2 teams.
I ended up being in White Tiger Mixed Double Group B.

We saw the schedule, and we were somewhat safe. We were able to play all our round robin stage games. We saw the semi-finals and finals date, and realized we wouldn& #39;t be able to make it for that because my boss was going on leave, and going out of the country!
But then we thought, meh, we& #39;ll just play, because I, for one, already have a loser mentality from the get go

So here we were, the first day of the tournament! I was nervous because I saw our opponents warming up and they could at least keep the shuttlecock up in the air. I couldn& #39;t.
Much to our surprise (well, mine anyway) we won our first straight set game against Grey Eagle!

Our third, and final, match came. If we won this, we& #39;d proceed straight to finals to play for the gold, but if we lost, we& #39;d play semi-finals for the bronze.
The unbelievable happened, and we won a rubber set.
Just to clarify, point we& #39;re distributed as so:
Straight win: 3 pts
Rubber win: 2 pts
Rubber lose: 1 pt
Lose: 0 pt
Just to clarify, point we& #39;re distributed as so:

So... Basically... We scored 8 out of maximum 9 points (top of group B table), and proceeded to the finals! Wow, who would& #39;ve thunk, right??
But if you remembered correctly in this inappropriately long Twitter thread, my boss wouldn& #39;t be able to make it if we made it to semis or the finals.
Because of this we had to "walk over" (I& #39;m so unsure of this term), and default to the losing team of the finals. So, kids, that is how I managed to get this today:
The unfit, unskilled me, won something like this. I still can& #39;t believe it. (We could& #39;ve won 1st place too, had we had the opportunity to contend for it

We have now come to the end of this thread. Thanks for reading, folks. Remember, don& #39;t knock it til you& #39;ve tried it!
