queer is a vague word. if your identity is 'fluid' or complex or confusing, that can be pretty comforting! but if you have a firm sense of a specific identity, others choosing not to use it in favour of a general term is going to feel like erasure because...it kinda is
lesbians are far more likely to feel that because of how much coming to terms with lesbian identity IS about its specificity. listen to how many lesbians talk about having felt in the past like they were exclusionary and regressive for being lesbians rather than sexually fluid
'queer is a slur, stop using it for the community' comes from people of all identities, but that's I think 'lesbian not queer' is such a Thing. reclaiming a slur takes WORK so why would you when it's being pushed onto you without consent and there's no benefit to its reclamation?
that would also be why those same people will often happily call themselves a dyke. still a slur, just an empowering one to reclaim when it actually describes you!
tldr: if you've finally come to terms with being a lesbian, you're far less likely to want to reclaim a slur that implies a fluidity you don't have. understand your own feelings about slur reclamation are not universal and stop calling people slurs they don't reclaim. thanks!
terfs stay tf away from this? i tweeted this as a reaction to people calling not liking a slur bigotry....meanwhile you're actual bigots so that's not really relevant.
