THREAD: I’m starting my scientific research paper, so I thought I’d share some underrated writing tips that I have come across. Hope this helps! #sciwritingtips #medtwitter #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #phdchat
Manuscript tip (1): readers interpret a text, they don’t simply read it; give as little room as possible for misinterpretation and misunderstanding. #sciwritingtips
Manuscript tip (2): the beginning of a sentence contains the topic you want to write about (often the grammatical subject); this is called Topic Position. #sciwritingtips
Manuscript tip (3): place the verb as close as possible to its subject; text between subject and verb is perceived as interruption and thus as something of lesser importance. #sciwritingtips
Manuscript tip (4): the reader expects new information at the end of the sentence, so put the most important point towards the end; this is referred to as Stress Position. #sciwritingtips
Manuscript tip (5): if you have several important points, generate multiple Stress Positions, for example by using colons or semicolons; the sentence appears too long when there are more important points than Stress Positions available. #sciwritingtips
