What is dopamine. It functions both as a hormone and a neurotransmitter, and plays several important roles in the brain and body. It's easy to damage dopamine with over stimulation of sweets combined with fats. This in turn triggers ghrelin to over stimulate.
For many, removing the addictive aspects such as sugar and carbs fixes dopamine receptors. This explains why so many, who go #lchf or #carnivore experience freedom from food addiction. But what happens if you have genetic low dopamine receptors.
This is where real addiction comes in. This makes it harder to adhere to ANY diet because that pleasure response is not triggered, in turn eating more than needed to get your fix. For those who struggle with this, kicking carbs and sugar just wont be enough.
So what works. I can only say, focus on proteins and fat but make them taste damn good. Be creative. Less chances of over eating when both the pleasure and satiety is addressed. Ask yourself, are you hungry or are you needing something that gives you satisfaction.
Then try and wait a bit. Doing something you enjoy doing. Take a walk, or read a book if that's how you get calm pleasure. Crafts, work out. Try to trigger the dopamine response in a healthy way. If your still hungry, eat something that tastes great, high in protein and fats.
It's a journey to find what will work for you to get over food addiction, be open to the process. Dont beat yourself up because you have a bad day. Acknowledge it, see the pattern, change what needs to change. Never give up.
