My time at the helm of @SarahMackAttack and #SquidProCrow is nearing an end and I’m overwhelmed by what I still want to tell you. DYK Canada jays make sticky spit so they can glue food to trees? Or that ravens comfort one another after a fight?
Or that Clark’s nutcrackers can remember where they hid 10,000 things and the spatial memory center of their brain actually increases in volume to accommodate this knowledge? How about how Steller’s jays weigh peanuts to pick the best one?
Or how brown-necked ravens hunt cooperatively to catch lizards? Ugh, there’s also that Hawaiian crows may be the only other tool making bird but they’ve been extinct in the wild for over a decade and we haven’t seen the newly released ones do it in the wild yet.
I guess this means you’ll just have to follow me @corvidresearch to learn more about the remarkable birds we call corvids. #SquidProCrow
