I’m thinking, the concept that trans women competing with other women is ‘unfair’ is only valid in a system where in order to monetize athletic achievement powerful institutions must create the sense that the ultimate point of sports is to be ‘the best’, attain prestige + money
in a sport system that stays faithful to its roots as entertainment, local community-building, emotional bonding what does it mean that trans women would play with other women?
it’d mean that sports system is healthy and working well bc trans women are allowed to bond, to build community, to socialize, with their peers, with the people they identify with — just like other women
sports has amazing potential for trans women assuming it’s a welcoming community that affirms our gender, because it creates pride in one’s body through that athleticism while at the same time affirming that body as a woman’s body
to put it another way, ‘competition’ in sports is only a function of its community-building role, and if trans women are excluded from sports on the basis of competition then sports is failing its community role

‘competition’ doesn’t supersede the humanity of trans women
