THREAD: It’s really difficult when your religion is being used as a political football.

The notion that Hindus like me, are a homogeneous group of people who blindly follow one path to make political choice is both insulting and loaded with prejudice.
Hindus come from a range of backgrounds and are also subject to class divisions.

We’d never assume Christians from Hampstead thought the same politically as Christians from Rotherham. Why do we think this is OK to do this to Hindus?
There are Hindus from across the world ... Mauritius, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Malaysia, Kenya ... and Hindus from these countries live in the UK

It’s a total madness to believe all Hindus in the world have the same political views
It’s also a fallacy that Hindus who are from around the world are remotely interested in Indian politics or are all supporting the current far-right nationalist govt under Modi.

Some have never been or associate themselves with India.
Just like there are Christians right now in Brazil who have absolutely no interest in UK politics or are suddenly Boris Johnson fans.

It’s a total madness to believe 1.1 billion Hindus in the world are so easily defined politically.
This defies logic.

There is no religious guidance anyone proclaiming to speak on behalf of our religion can give.

It does not exist.

I’m Hindu. I vote Labour. And will continue to do so.
