The mob campaign against @PeteButtigieg is acting in bad faith and engaging in the worst form of journalism. People took one factually correct thing he said to offer a partial reason to explain the achievement gap and used it as the crux to explain his supposed racism. 1/
Saying that some minority students have a hard time seeing the benefits of education is not a racially charged lie, but a fact for so many millions of Americans. For many Americans, a high school education is a joke, and community or state colleges aren’t much better. 2/
Lack of opportunity in so many impoverished neighborhoods prevents minority students from achieving their maximum potential, and of course government policies contribute to this. Buttigieg never claimed the opposite. 3/
The whole argument against Buttigieg seems to be that he is the “perfect white savior” who never had to work a day in his life and claims he has all the answers. Again, this is just flat out wrong on so many levels. 4/
White or not white, getting into Harvard is not easy, and getting a Rhodes Scholarship is something only 100 people in the world are chosen for, no easy task. As a mayor, he worked hard to take on racial issues, and continues to do so to this day. 5/
This is not to say that he cannot be arrogant, overly polished, or come off as elitist, but this is no different than so many other politicians that escape this kind of vicious attack. 6/
While Pete’s homosexuality has always been a critical part of his campaign, it seems like so many online today are more concerned with dismissing the struggles of being gay than acknowledging his strength in embracing it. 7/
To end this off, there is NO evidence whatsoever to prove that @PeteButtigieg is racist or that he has intentioned lies or misled the public over racial problems in South Bend. Next time you want to smear his character, do better. 8/fin
