CORBYN FOR DECENCY, INTEGRITY, HUMANITY...AND PALESTINE- A Long Thread-
One of the worst things about having a few days off in Winter is I watch more ‘news’ than might otherwise be the case. All day Sky News are at it, no doubt BBC and even C4 will be at it tonight.
By ‘it’ I refer to taking the bait from the UK Chief Rabbi’s decision to intervene in electoral politics and describe Jeremy Corbyn as ‘unfit for office’ due to his alleged record on anti-semitism.
Listen carefully, you will not hear or read an anti-semitic comment from Jeremy Corbyn or any attack of any abused and marginalised people anywhere. Jeremy Corbyn you see, throughout his life, does not kick down on marginalised people. It’s not who or what he is. No.
Jeremy Corbyn pushes up against elites and the corrupt and is always seeking to deliver change and a fairer, more equal and more caring society for all.
It is this challenge to the rich and powerful elites that is what REALLY has those elites terrified that Jeremy Corbyn might just become Britain’s next Prime Minister. And the issue of Palestine is one example of Corbyn standing with the vulnerable against their abusers.
You probably won’t hear it on the news but if elected Corbyn would be the first British PM to hold a positively pro-Palestine position. It has never happened before. The pictures below give a glimpse as to why that is important.
The first one is of a woman holding aloft what is a common anti-Palestine sentiment in Israel. Last Saturday I hosted a discussion where a 17 year old Palestinian youth, and his Father, told a Dublin Conference how he was jailed as a child for 6 months in an adult prison
for the allegation of throwing a single stone. Ahmed Alsoos also told us how ‘lucky’ he felt. Why? Because some of his friends had been jailed for life, and ‘life’ for them is an astonishing 99 year sentence.
The event also heard and seen video of Israelis describing Palestinians as ‘dogs’ who are ‘born to die’. A brave Israeli (Jewish) Journalist told us how the death of a single dog in Israel is worthy of more sorrow than the elimination of scores of Palestinians.
In that environment those of us who oppose the attempted genocide of the Palestinian people are now presented by the powerful Israel lobby as anti-Semites.
Even many Jews who do not support the behaviour of the Israeli state towards Palestine have suffered attack on this basis, targeted for their alleged ‘betrayal’, when in actual fact all they are guilty of is showing humanity to Palestinians.
It is bizarre. More, it is intellectually and morally dishonest.
This is the madness that now pervades what passes for political ‘debate’ on the issue of Palestine.
These are the sentiments that the Chief Rabbi of the UK is whipping up with his highly inappropriate political intervention last night.
Shame on him.
Jeremy Corbyn has never voted for a war, has never made a person homeless, has never given tax breaks to the super rich, has never closed a needed public service, and has never abused a vulnerable person in his life.
You can rest assured he won’t be turning his back on the abused people of Palestine anytime soon.
If there is any justice left in this cruel world he will be Britain’s next Prime Minister.
Or it could just be because of this? @chiefrabbi ???
