Mixed feelings about the picket this morning.

It was excellent to see professorial colleagues on the line, especially those with management roles.

But the presence of these few was a reminder of how many are not out on the line - even if they're on strike.
Given the outstanding participation of our most precarious colleagues and postgraduate researchers, and the support and solidarity we're getting from our students, it would be great to see more professors on the picket lines too.
It was a professor on the line today who pointed out that people higher up the pay scale - like her - will benefit most from any gains we make from the strike, at least as far as basic salary is concerned: any increase will be a percentage, which benefits higher earners most.
So: if you're a professor and you're on strike, please take this as a bit of positive encouragement to attend the picket (or at least let it be publicly known that you're on strike).

PS Donations to the strike fund from those who can afford them (and/or not claiming from it if you can afford not to) also help support your precarious colleagues.

This is progressive rather than regressive, albeit a bit crudely - those who earn less receive more.
