Those upset with Kamala's mental health plan love to ignore that she is the only one seriously addressing this issue. The idea that folks would be upset at the thought of more facilities instead of us going to jail or being killed by cops is baffling. /1
Right now and ever since Reagan cut funding and helped close down several outlets for mental health care. People with serious mental issues have faced homelessness, jail and death at the hands if law enforcement who cannot handle or non lucid state. /2
Some of you are truly approaching this topic as concerned but have no idea what this is like. As someone who literally walks a fine line of lucid/non lucid having more medical options is a plus! /3
Yes I have a fear of being institutionalized. I've been Baker act by an abusive spouse. It is not a black/white issue. But when I think of the alternative how I could have easily been put in jail for wandering the streets in a haze...I'm glad I was put in a care facility. /4
Point blank you all need to talk to people actually living with mental illness. Many of us are on here. It's not easy being open about it
But if your going to speak up for us, make sure you know where we stand. /5
Too many want to knit pick this policy when we literally have no other options for mental health care. And we need more funding and access for those without transportation. Kamala's plan has this./6
Her plan also addresses care for kids, vets, PTSD sufferers from all walks including sexual assault and childhood trauma victims. Do you even realize how many of us felt invisible? This plan recognizes us! /7
I just wish people who want o tear this down would put themselves in my shoes. I have lived with my illness many years. I have seen both good and bad from this. But until this plan I have never felt seem by politics without a shooting or act of terrorism bring invoked. /8
Please understand this as you criticize. And come up with viable solutions if you have issues with the plan. After reading it I am grateful for it! /end https://kamalaharris.org/policies/mental-health/full-policy/
