#ClimateHope What happens when you take a diverse group of people, no more concerned about climate change than the rest of the population, and ask them to recommend, with advice from 'expert witnesses', what their city should do about climate change?

#LeedsClimate Thread:
The Leeds Climate Jury, 21 citizens representative of the wider population, have just produced their final report.
https://www.leedsclimate.org.uk/leeds-citizens-jury-recommendations-published
Leeds Climate Jury's top recommendation was to make the use of private cars a last resort - unanimous that local buses should be brought under public control. Jurors called for a congestion charge, safe cycle lanes and cycle storage, and increased pedestrianisation.
Leeds Climate Jury recommended Leeds Bradford Airport should NOT be expanded. 18/21 members supported, 2 abstained.
The expansion plans are currently supported by Leeds and Bradford Councils and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The jury called for all existing housing to be made energy efficient and for a large-scale communication drive on climate action through every possible means. Reminder - these are not environmental activists. You can read here how members were chosen: https://www.leedsclimate.org.uk/recruitment-leeds-climate-change-citizens-jury
