Many different people for all sorts of reasons and circumstances use local food banks and soup kitchens, like the one I visited a few days ago in Dover. Tory austerity and local council cuts has seen use soar over the last decade.
Today I met a woman down to her last pennies. I was canvassing her area and she brought me into her flat to show me her empty fridge. She has lost her DLA and the bedroom tax is punishing her. She cried while we were chatting and we hugged. She had voted Tory all her life.
One day there can be a time where food banks & soup kitchens aren’t needed & everyone can access basics. Labour’s policies to scrap Universal Credit, provide 8000 accommodations for rough sleepers & stop the Bedroom Tax are great. They bring what is needed in Dover: real change.
