So I said I was seeing lots of tweets and pics of geographers who were picketing and there& #39;s been some suggestion that maybe we think we& #39;re it, strike-wise. And that& #39;s great. But of course this is actually (and predictably) unevenly distributed. A #notallgeographers thread 1/6
So alongside the success stories it sounds like there are lots of places where it& #39;s only the early career/insecure staff striking, while senior staff cross the picket, sheepishly or otherwise. Don& #39;t provide fuel for the argument that this is not a dispute for all of us... 2/6
Some of the pressure to silence social media criticism of universities comes right from the top, from the worst VCs. We all know who those people are, though I don& #39;t think all of that stuff is out in the open yet. But senior geographers shouldn& #39;t silence their *own* staff. 3/6
And please, if you tweet biting denunciations of neoliberalism, or publish them in REFfable journals, why not practice what you preach and support the strike? We already have @Adamtickles as *the* poster boy for that kind of bad faith. Please don& #39;t be like Adam. 4/6
And finally, if you tell colleagues you& #39;re on strike, please make sure you do actually withdraw your labour, even if you can& #39;t picket. Don& #39;t work at home, or tell HR you weren& #39;t on strike so you get paid for those days. 5/6
Geography is a small discipline in the UK and it& #39;s easy to hear about and map the problem people and the rubbish departments. And we won& #39;t forget these stories when you ask us for help as examiners or whatever. I won& #39;t, anyway. 6/6
