So I said I was seeing lots of tweets and pics of geographers who were picketing and there's been some suggestion that maybe we think we're it, strike-wise. And that's great. But of course this is actually (and predictably) unevenly distributed. A #notallgeographers thread 1/6
So alongside the success stories it sounds like there are lots of places where it's only the early career/insecure staff striking, while senior staff cross the picket, sheepishly or otherwise. Don't provide fuel for the argument that this is not a dispute for all of us... 2/6
Some of the pressure to silence social media criticism of universities comes right from the top, from the worst VCs. We all know who those people are, though I don't think all of that stuff is out in the open yet. But senior geographers shouldn't silence their *own* staff. 3/6
And please, if you tweet biting denunciations of neoliberalism, or publish them in REFfable journals, why not practice what you preach and support the strike? We already have @Adamtickles as *the* poster boy for that kind of bad faith. Please don't be like Adam. 4/6
And finally, if you tell colleagues you're on strike, please make sure you do actually withdraw your labour, even if you can't picket. Don't work at home, or tell HR you weren't on strike so you get paid for those days. 5/6
Geography is a small discipline in the UK and it's easy to hear about and map the problem people and the rubbish departments. And we won't forget these stories when you ask us for help as examiners or whatever. I won't, anyway. 6/6
