1./Tesla pulled 200k pre-orders for a product that starts at $39,900 in its first 6 days.

And it's further impressive to note that Tesla sold all of it on a DTC model, no showrooms

There's a lot that startups looking to launch a Kickstarter campaign can learn from them...
2a./ Rethink everything about your product!
The primary reason why the Cybertruck did so well was because of its design, none of the mockups from industry watchers were remotely accurate (expect maybe @wintonARK's tweet)...

2b./ ..the great part of the truck is the fact that it's not bland like crackers or sliced bread (no offence), it's either you love it or hate it. That wow factor is so important because it makes people look twice and pay attention.
3./ Not just a product that looks different but one that is actually cheaper and solves the problem more efficiently than others. If your product is not only better but also cheaper than the competition's, you've properly won 50% of the battle. https://twitter.com/wintonARK/status/1197753602158129153?s=20
4a./ Direct comparison with competitions'.
Elon not only said: "Cybertruck is better than the F-150." But made a video proving these claims.

Come up with *crazy* ways to demonstrate that your product is better than anyone currently on the market....
4b./ ...but unlike Elon, you probably don't have 30M followers to share your video. But you can rely on key influencers in your market to create super authentic-looking videos of these contests and kick it up a notch by propagating a fun challenge around your product too.
5a./Because the Cybertruck came with a radical design and trended globally, people were proud to post that they had pre-ordered because perhaps subconsciously they wanted to make a statement to the general public that they were futurists and forward thinkers = Viral Effect...
5b./...for your startup, as you grow, you might begin to run campaigns targeting both your core audience and the people they want to impress, this way, your target customers are more willing to share, knowing that the people they trying to impress are actually being impressed
6./That's it!
I'm going to be sharing soon on a more critical topic: "What's next for Tesla: How they can ensure backers actually pay up!"

And I'm going to be referencing a lot from this great thread right here, you should check it out. https://twitter.com/rezakhadjavi/status/1172235281283657729?s=20
