Today is World Access to Higher Education Day #WAHED2019 @WorldAccessHE

A thread:

Our education work, led by @CharlotteByrn3, broadens access to higher education for people in the asylum process.

This year our Education Fund made substantive grants to 65 people in 6 counties.
Thanks to @TomarTrust @CommunityFound @MHCLawyers @coilltenews @GibneyComm @salesforce and the public who make this work possible.

6 out of 8 universities in Ireland have a scholarship programme for people in the asylum process:

@DublinCityUni @tcddublin @ucddublin @UCC @UL @nuigalway

Some have been awarded #universityofsanctuary status by @POSIrl

CC: @universitytimes
8 out 11 Institutes of Technology in Ireland also have scholarships or education access programmes:

@AthloneIT @itcarlow @CIT_ie @myIAD @GMITOfficial
@LYIT @LimerickIT @ITTallaght @ittralee

Our guide summarizes these programmes and other opportunities: https://www.irishrefugeecouncil.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/2019-IRC-Education-Information-Issue-14-08-Oct-2019.pdf
We welcome @Education_Ire decision to broaden pilot scheme but very significant barriers remain. E.g. people granted permission to remain under the International Protection Act not entitled to apply for SUSI.

Correction: the Education Fund has granted to people in 16 counties, not 6.
