My jokey tweet yesterday about the 'downloaded for' crew was actually pretty serious - THREAD. I get that DJs get bombarded and that there are a lot of shitty practices when it comes to sending promos (that's another conversation) but if you're too busy to leave feedback or to..
..ask your 'butler’ to at least hit up the people you’ve left placeholder feedback to tell them you’re supporting music, then you’re literally leeching. Not only do these endorsements bolster creatives, they actually do help sell music...
....(recent chats at ADE with several of the big digital stores/streaming sites suggests they still pay a lot of attention to ‘support lists’ when it comes to pushing music) so if you’re earning thousands for playing a gig then the least you can do is tip your hat to the people
...helping to populate your sets. For balance, it’s worth pointing out that of the busiest, ‘biggest’ DJs on the planet regularly leave feedback or follow up with feedback so I know, first hand, that it is possible
....(and big ups to those who do). For those who don’t - give something back, it’s important.
