GroenLinks (Green party) proposes scrapping childcare subsidy for 3 days free childcare. Scrapping the subsidy? Good idea. 3 days of free childcare? NOT a viable solution. Why not? 1) The current system produces inequality in accessibility and quality...> https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/politiek/artikel/4934076/kinderopvang-gratis-groenlinks-kinderopvangtoeslag">https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/po...
Not to mention affordability given the complex financing and market-driven character. But giving 3 days of care doesn’t challenge those inequalities, it maintains them. 2) 3 days of care also maintains the so-called 1.5 earner model in NL: men work FT, women PT, w/PT childcare. >
...3) Biggest problem w/ Dutch childcare is the fact it’s a labor market instrument, rather than pedagogical instrument, essential for children’s development.
