Hannibal Season 1 starting now

I don't know what to expect

I love the Hannibal books and silence of the lambs movie is pretty great

So yeah here's to this show hopefully being good

Just give me something intense, psychological, and disturbing and we good

Finally found a streaming service to use to watch it tho so now we good

This guy retracing the crime scene in his head being shown to us visually is soooooo cool

The framing of this show is such eye candy

That was just the opening scene and I can't say I've ever seen camera work that good for primetime television. That was like some HBO or AMC level stuff.

Yeah, it is Will. That's so cool.

You don't see characters with autism/aspergers played seriously in any context really so this is really nice to see. Makes his character much more distinct already because of his specific way of communicating with people.

It's so impressive how nice each shot of this looks and the lightning and just like everything about it. There's a lot of TV shows you can look at and it looks like it was filmed in 5 min on a dollar store camera but this is just really high quality. Kinda in awe.

Man, those pained expressions that Will makes when having to talk to the girl's family. They're just giving him these confused stares and he looks really uncomfortable.

The way his eyes like scan just anything rapidly and his breath gets all quick when he's forced to interact with somonene

Actually inserting yourself into the killer's headspace like that can in no way be mentally healthy. Esp because it seems like so much more than just "imagination"

Everything about this character the actor nails. The speech, the facial expression being so confined and restricted, closing himself off through body posture, etc.

That's such a clever way of illustrating how linked Will is with him

Episode 2: Amuse-Bouche

This shooting gallery sequence with Will seeing the guy he shot last ep is tense.

These nightmare sequences get rough.

It's really hard to gauge because I mean Hannibal is skilled at getting ppl to trust him but it feels like it's different with Will

I feel like he truly understands him

This show really good at creating these disturbing visuals. When the camera pulls back and you see these row of hands I got chills. Esp cuz it's night here lol

Why does Will surround himself with so much death? Esp when his mind still torments him away from the crime scene

Is it just a matter of wanting to help or does he feel like he has a sense of purpose/belonging for his "gifts" if he uses them for this?

That shooting really just added more stress and waking nightmares to everything he's already experiencing. It's even started to invade on his crime scene reconstruction moments.

I wonder if the cases are meant to have some kind of thematic resonance to the characters? Cuz they hypothesize the Farmer is seeking connections through his victims and you could also say that Will/Hannibal seem to be lacking in their own personal connections

Hannibal asking the reporter to delete the recordings she secretly took of Will and him is interesting because he says it in the nicest way possible and yet there's this subtle menace to it. Like, he has this commanding presence that makes you not wanna disobey.

Then the scene cuts...

I can't tell if it's hinting he DID do that to her or it's just like a warning for what could happen

prob the latter a journalist going missing would be too much of a red flag

Hannibal didn't seem too happy about it either interestingly enough

This guy's philosophy about connections is so messed up but so interesting esp how it relates to Will. This idea that by making people become one with nature you can feel their connection more strongly because the layers that hide the Self are stripped away

This dialogue exchange about the horror of realizing it feels good to kill segwaying into a discussion about God is just so perfect.

Another absolutely fantastic episode

More crime shows need to take a page out of Hannibal's book of having the cases not just be random and have them mean something

Like the case in this actually holds a thematic purpose and is important for Will's character

Interestingly enough we're back on whatshisface from episode 1. He's teaching his daughter how to cut a deer and talking about how not using all the parts is akin to dishonoring them and then what you're doing is basically murder

Smhhh journalist is back and she's dishing on will's history to Abigail to make her wary about him saying he failed to make it into the FBI due to being deemed "too unstable"

"He can think like the insane because he is insane."

Poor Abigail suffering from all this trauma and losing everyone around her and then accidentally killing someone just

Hannibal really manipulating Abigail. He's so charismatic and nice that forget it but in this moment when he tells her to hide the body and convinces her that she "butchered" the brother you realize just how dangerous he is

Two people died

They accomplished absolutely nothing

and Abigail prob has no hope of ever being well again

Will just sums it up because at the end of it all you can see the defeat in his eyes and he just says he's going home and leaves

Episode 4: Ceuf

This is interesting. Will discussing with Hannibal all the times that he "became" the Shrike and how he felt guilty like he killed the girls.

I'd been wondering this since episode 1 but it def seems like what will does can really mess with your sense of identity

Hannibal talking vaguely with Will about his childhood and I'm glad they hinted at it. That proves the writers understand this character cuz his childhood is the most important event in his life that destroyed his faith in any kind of justice and made him who he is

Man, like, I really love Anthony Hopkins don't get me wrong but seeing Mads as Hannibal and Hugh as Will really makes me wanna see an adaptation of Red Dragon with them.

Mads I think I prefer over Hopkins

So this case is focused on a "mother" that abducts runaway kids and then has the kids kill their own families as a means of severing that bond to make new connections. It's interesting cuz it relates to Will in the sense that he has no family of his own.

Will makes mention that his mother is hard to reach, so maybe it has something to do with who he is that makes him unable to make that connection? Not sure but since family/motherhood is the focus of this ep it must be something like that

Yea that's what I thought was esp messed up about this that even if they are saved they will still always live with having killed their own families

Will's anger here is also interesting cuz he finds what they did so reckless and an insult to ppl like Abigail that lost their family and didn't get a choice. I also imagine this anger prob also has something to do with his own desire to connect and family.
