In 2020, let's also stop sharing screenshots of emails and DMs from people reaching out for help+mentorship. You shame them because their approach rubbed you the wrong way? You can choose not to respond or make it a teachable moment.
Sometimes people lack email etiquette because they didn't learn in school or at internships and clearly no one took the time to correct them. Why penalize someone who is clearly coming to you to better themselves?
Yes, some people send cold emails with an entitled attitude, but why shame them? No response is always an option. In the end, you look like the asshole and used your billable hours to put someone on blast.
I will never forget I saw a thread ripping another individual for "how" they asked for help. The person went on to tweet a 4 step guide on how to properly ask them for mentorship.
A lot of time is invested in being a mentor and you can't take everyone under your wing...I get it... boundaries, but some of y'all aren't that important to request someone submit an application for advice. Whew.
At the end of the day, someone had to help you get to where you are and probably still is.
