Please, take the time to read this.

Take time to think about those who say “I went to my family’s cabin for the weekend”. And it is 3/4 of the group, while 1/4 stay silent.

Without my husband I could not literally afford to be in school. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/25/health/medical-school-cost-diversity.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share
I could barely afford to apply.
My sister and I worked 2 jobs full time all of undergrad (40-60 hours week on top of full time course load) to afford to apply only to realize 2 years into medical school we could have qualified for application waivers.

We didn’t know they exist
All those “things”: sketchy, pathoma, first aid, Uworld, Step 1, Step 2, flying for step 3 CS. All that stuff is a slap in the face to those whose loans only cover tuition.
To those who say that finances shouldn’t be factor in determining specialty, I say it must be nice to never have to worry about truly having $0 in bank account.
The lack of diversity in family income in medical schools is absolutely appalling. As are most grad schools.

Yet, income disparities are rarely discussed when bringing up diversity. Why? Because typically the poor kids can’t afford to make to the interview in first place.
This piece is extremely well-written and reflects an often overlooked minority of medical students.

Please, do not ever scoff at a student for discussing income. You have no idea what their background is or if they are using loan $ to help their Fam.
I would also like to point out that ERAS has no application waiver like AMCAS.

MCAT had reduced fee options. @TheUSMLE has no such options to my knowledge.

There are ZERO things that I am aware of that reduce cost for those who cannot afford it in med school aside from loans
P.s. If you follow me and are ever in contact with someone or are someone who is planning their schedule for school while working, please DM me.

Please allow me to help you so that you know all your options. Don’t believe anyone who tells you that you can’t do school part time
