32 years ago my father woke up like any other day as alderman. He was dealing with a problem liquor store. When he returned, he got the call. The mayor had a heart attack and he had to rush downtown. This picture is of him leaving the ward office that day to be sworn in as mayor
One of my favorite pictures from that day is my father holding a portrait of Harold my godmother had painted. Chicago had just lost a mayor. My father had just lost a friend.
