Hey not to be that guy, but piracy tends to happen in a limited amount of scenarios :
1) People who read have no money. At best, this will be a library request purchase from the trade paperback. At worse, you lost nothing.
2) People sharing a comic with problematic content (cont)
3) People who have money, but don't see this media/art as worthy of it. You aren't getting sales out of these guys, they only support their own. There is no love here.
4) People who have no way of accessing the content for money. Example :
As a Quebecois, most French media is imports, same for American content. If no Canadian distributors tackle either, I can either order directly from the USA or France at greater expense (which I do for webcomics, my bros) or not at all.
And finally 5) I just want to sample first.
So like, lamenting that you aren't getting sales from these categories point to the fact that a) your distribution system is bad / obsolete, b) the you put a ton of pressure on projects to be extremely profitable on a short notice and...
c) you think potential clients convert to readers by magic, since you provide little information, little guides, and for some pieces, count on the artist social media following to do the marketing for you, and lemme tell you, social media follower conversion to buyers is HARD.
Have y'all ever wondered how webcomic creators manage to still sell Kickstarter copies easily? We diversify how we monetize, punk. Educate yourself, you bland CEOs, and pay your artists.
In French, a bunch of editors make samples of their comics for free on fan collection management websites like BDgest. Wow, how rad and useful.
