Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has quite fairly asked what will become of British Jews should Jeremy Corbyn become Prime Minster after a Labour victory. As a humble Labour footsoldier I will do my best to allay his fears and answer his question.
British Jews, like everyone else, will within six months be given the opportunity to vote in a Referendum to either accept a sensible Leave deal or Remain in the EU. Labour will abide by their decision. Either way they will continue to benefit from membership of the customs union
British Jews, like everyone else, will benefit from the scrapping of the Tories hostile environment for immigrants, and will retain freedom of movement throughout the EU or the closest approximation to it that can be negotiated.
British Jews working in the public sector (like everyone else in the public sector) will receive a 5% pay rise to recognise the fantastic work they do for our country and to signal that the appalling years of austerity cuts are at an end.
British Jews earning above £80,000 a year (like everyone else who earns above £80,000 a year) will be asked to contribute just a little more income tax to help fund the social regeneration so desperately need in our country.
British Jews struggling on the minimum wage, like everyone else struggling on the minimum wage, will see their pay rise to at least £10 an hour, and will also no longer have to suffer the uncertainty of being on a zero hours contract.
Within a decade British Jews, like everyone else, will have seen their working week cut to 32 hours with no loss of pay as they benefit from increased productivity.
British Jews, like everyone else, will enjoy an extra four days Bank Holiday per year.
British Jews, like everyone else, will get to see the NHS that they love freed from the threat of privatisation or takeover by Corporate America, and will be happy to know that the NHS will have at least a 4.3% a year on average funding increase, undoing the years of Tory neglect
British Jews, like everyone else, will be covered by the "lifetime cap" on the amount they have to pay for social care, and those aged over 65 will get free personal care when they need it.
British Jews who care for others at home, like every other amazing carer who gives so much to our society, can also expect an increase in their weekly carer's allowance, which is currently at £66.15 a week, while those receiving social care at home could expect longer visits.
British Jews, like everyone else, will be entitled to free annual dental check-ups and free prescriptions in England, and will no longer have to pay Hospital car park charges whether they are patients, staff or visitors.
British Jews, like everyone else, will benefit from a massive expansion in house building and council house building. Those that rent privately will be protected by much more stringent rights and living in houses fit for habitation.
British Jews, like everyone else, will see their retirement age pegged at 66 rather than taken ever further out of reach. Those Jewish WASPI women so cruelly robbed of the pensions they had already paid for will be compensated.
British Jews who recognise the dire emergency that is Climate Change, like everyone else who trusts the 99% of scientists warning of catastrophe, will see the Labour government accelerating the pace we travel towards a net-carbon zero economy to save the planet for our children.
British Jews, like everyone else, will finally see the private monopolies of Gas, Electricity, Water, Mail and Rail back in public ownership where they belong, and will love their new free superfast broadband service.
British Jews, like everyone else, will no longer have to endure the cruel reality of the Universal Credit regime and benefit sanctions designed to punish those already desperate and in need of help.
British Jews about to embark on a University education, like everyone else at that exciting age, will be able to do so without incurring the crippling debt forced upon so many in recent years through tuition fees, and the poorest will once again have access to maintenance grants.
British Jews, like everyone else, will benefit in these and a hundred other ways as our broken public services are mended and our fractured society is healed.
More immediately on December 13th all those thousands of wonderful Jewish comrades who have fought for every Labour vote on the doorsteps, in their places of work and on social media will have a massive party to celebrate their victory, alongside every other Labour activist.
British Jews, just like everyone else, have nothing to fear from a Labour victory, and everything to gain. Because British Jews ARE just like everyone else, with the same hopes for a better future for their families, and the same dreams that a fairer society can be created.
So Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, I hope this answer to your question is heard, it comes from my heart. The Labour Party will make the country a better place for everyone, no matter their age, no matter their colour, no matter their race, no matter their religion, without exception.
