I think Ben will beat the odds and stick around, James seems to really like and trust him. That 3pt% better rise sharply though https://twitter.com/fyrebear/status/1199117337766637568
I've always felt teams have room for a Gunner off the bench. Someone who can drop 20 on a random Wednesday night game in December. The problem is Ben is nowhere near his career average, and he is playing heavy rotation minutes.
There's a reason this team fell in love with Gerald Green, and it's not just because he's a vet and the Mayor of Houston. If he has the exact same impact but was a backup center, or a pass first point guard, I don't think it's the same.
Being a guy who can hit three 3's in a quarter and swing a game, maybe even hit a buzzer beater to win one every now and then. Just being a gunner as an 8th/9th man can give the team a lot of energy on random regular season games.
Crucially though he should get DNP's. He can come in to start the 2nd, play 3 minutes and if he's not got it and starts cold, he can get yanked and there are other options. Right now McLemore is basically our 6th man. A min contract restoration project cannot have that role.
